The Driving Force behind HEAVY DUTY

Living in Los Angeles' car culture started Alex Volkmann, a former make-up artist and beauty industry executive, thinking about the analogy between the care of one's body and the care of one's automobile. So Volkmann took a nuts and bolts approach to ingredients, incorporated an automotive concept and created a body care line geared for both men and women. The emphasis is on quality ingredients in a fun retro package.

Her HEAVY DUTY line of cosmetics includes; HandGear - hand cream, MotorWash -shower gel, AutoStrip - shave cream, TurboScrub - body scrub, BodyLube - body lotion, and ChassisOil - body oil. The products are available internationally; at upscale specialty stores, specialty chain stores, salons and day spas.

"I named the company HEAVY DUTY because I wanted a serious, straightforward name that would denote strength, dependability, and the way I believe products should perform." says Volkmann. The names as well as the shapes of the containers are auto-inspired, and are packaged with a sense of humor. After the initial launch of HEAVY DUTY HandGear, Volkmann collaborated with a chemist to develop the following industrial strength products:

HEAVY DUTY products are on permanent display at the Victoria & Albert Museum for innovative packaging and design.

Alex has been voted "Entrepreneur of the Year" by I.C.M.A.D. (Independent cosmetics manufacturers and distributors) for her contribution to the cosmetics industry.

"All of the HEAVY DUTY products were on display at the American Folk Art Museum gift store in New York. The buyer thought the products were innovative and fun." says Volkmann.
