HEAVY
DUTY's HandGear is featured in the July
11th edition of the Handsblue blog article, "How
to be a Summer God" - Men's top ten beauty list....
"You can’t hit the beach without looking
polished, and that includes finishing touches like un-calloused
hands. If you have rough hands, you’ll blow your leisurely
cover. This hand cream from California-based company Heavy Duty
is one of the best on the market – it’s thick and rich,
but it absorbs instantly, and it doesn’t need to be re-applied
every 15 minutes. Happy vanilla-citrus scent, too. "

ALLURE
(July 2003) Secret
Beauty Treasures
The words "orange-scented" and "macho" rarely
are used in the same breath. But HEAVY DUTY Hand Gear is both of
those things in one package. On each tube is a picture of a woman
in a sweater, tight pencil skirt, and pumps, jacking up a Cadillac.
The viscous moisturizer, sold at automotive stores and museum gift
shops, appeals to men and women. (Aerosmith's Steven Tyler bought
the entire stock- and the display - the the American Folk Art Museum
gift store in New York City.) "It's the only cream, besides
prescriptions formulas, that helps my dry, flaky hands," says
Jennifer Binham, a 39-yer-old from Murphys, California. "It
also smells delicious, like Pixy Sticks."
Where to find it: www.heavydutyco.com; Henri
Bendel, N.Y.C. (212-247-1100); select Nordstrom stores Price: $15

STORE BUSINESS (March

Vroom!
Don't be fooled by the rough exterior. HEAVY DUTY MotorWash shower
gel may be shaped like an oilcan, but customers don't have to get
greasy under the hood to enjoy its citrus-y suds. Extracts of comfrey,
calendula and elderflower soften and condition the skin and can
be enjoyed by both automobile aficionados and the "mechanically
challenged."

Shop With The Pros: Gifts For Him
"I've
created a monster," Delux Beauty creator and founder Jillian
Fink Dempsey says of her husband, actor Patrick Dempsey. "He's
not a beauty snob--yet--but he's getting there." Dempsey admits
she's partially to blame for his newfound beauty obsessions: "I'm
always testing a nail polish or a blush on him," she says,
"He's forever mixing up terms: He calls nail polish lipstick
and concealer lipstick -- he pretty much calls everything lipstick.
And he steals all my favorite products: eye cream, body lotion,
even zit cream!" So for Valentines Day, she's hitting Larchmont
Beauty Center in Los Angeles. "He'd never get these things
for himself, but he'll appreciate them," she says, tossing
bath foam and a scrub brush into her basket. "And now he won't
have to steal my products." She also loves the HEAVY DUTY Hand
Gear. "This packaging is just so man-appropriate."

TIMES (January

Where making up is so easy to do
Head to Nashiville, home of big hair, Dolly Parton and, more surprisingly,
a huge emporium that takes the nightmare out of buying beauty. Private
Edition, the largest, privately owned make-up emporium in the US
(and, most probably, the world), in terms of physical size and stock
size. Founded by Linda Roberts 20 years ago, it remains a revelation.
The "trends area" is stocked with all the most covetable
niche brands (Trish McEvoy, Stila, Shu Uemura, Laura Mercier), plus
a host of hip cosmetic lines that London's trendiest boutiques have
yet to spot (Lucky Chic, HEAVY DUTY, Kiss Me Mascara). Upstairs,
there are six treatment rooms for fast-track facials, waxing, glycolic
peels and microdermabrasion (exfoliating skin without lasers or
chemicals). It's less a day spa, thean a perfectionist's pit-stop.
